at first it was just a pizza party— the last night of flag camp, the last flag camp of high school. we ordered three large pizzas and set ourselves up in an alcove between a staircase and a building, ten of us, warm and luxurious. doug had his laptop and played deejay to our heartbeats and the summer. we moved and jumped and smiled and giggled and laughed in the near darkness, intoxicated by this fleeting moment, by our long-time friends and by friends who we had only just met.
